Skubal Makes History with Shutout and 13 Ks Over 94 Pitches

Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal achieved an unprecedented feat on Sunday by throwing a nine-inning, complete-game shutout while striking out at least 13 batters in under 100 pitches. The 5-0 win over the Guardians marked Skubal’s rare accomplishment of pitching a Maddux.

Skubal allowed only two hits and didn’t issue a walk during his dominant performance. He finished the game with a strikeout, recording a pitch speed of 102.6 mph that remains the hardest in his career. This also surpassed previous records by starting pitchers in the ninth inning, set in the 2008 pitch-tracking era.

Throughout the game, Skubal’s ERA dropped to 2.49, further solidifying the Tigers’ position as first-place team in the AL Central division. With this remarkable performance, Skubal cemented his status as a dominant force in the league.
