Pacers Stumble in 4th Quarter, Fall Behind in East Finals

The Indiana Pacers’ lead evaporated in the fourth quarter, as the New York Knicks staged a dramatic comeback to win 106-100 and cut the series lead to 2-1. The Pacers’ inability to close out the third quarter and start the fourth quarter effectively cost them the game.

With a 20-point deficit at intermission, the Pacers seemed poised for victory, but they allowed the Knicks to stay within striking distance through a combination of questionable shots and turnovers. Meanwhile, Karl-Anthony Towns scored 24 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Knicks’ rally.

The Pacers made several crucial mistakes, including not attacking Jalen Brunson aggressively despite his foul trouble and allowing him to score several key baskets. A sprained ankle to forward Aaron Nesmith also hurt the Pacers, as he was one of their best players in the series so far.

“We had some back-and-forth, kind of nutty plays,” said Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. “We didn’t do well enough in that area. We never were able to really pull away.”

The Pacers’ next game is on Tuesday, and they’ll need to regroup and adjust their strategy if they want to take control of the series.
