Kami Rita Sets New Record for Most Mount Everest Climbs

Kami Rita Sherpa has shattered his own record by climbing to the summit of Mount Everest for the 31st time at the age of 55. The Nepali climber first reached the peak in 1994, when he was just 24 years old.

Sherpa’s impressive feat is all the more remarkable considering his schedule: nearly every year since the 1990s, often completing multiple ascents in a single climbing season. In 2019, he made two summits in one week alone.

The legendary climber has now trekked to many of the world’s highest peaks but will face stiff competition from fellow Nepali guide Pasang Dawa Sherpa, who recently reached the top for the 29th time. A new challenger emerged this season when Tashi Gyalzen Sherpa climbed to the summit four times in just 15 days.

The record-breaking feat was announced by Seven Summit Treks, where Kami Rita led a team on Tuesday morning around 4 am local time. The agency hailed him as “not just a national climbing hero but a global symbol of Everest.”
