CVS Plans to Close Hundreds of Stores in 2025 Amid Restructuring Efforts

CVS Health has announced plans to close hundreds of stores across the US by 2025 as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts. The company aims to streamline operations and adapt to shifting consumer needs.

According to a recent annual report, CVS will be closing 271 retail stores in 2025, following the closure of around 900 locations between 2022 and 2024. The closures are based on several factors, including population shifts, consumer buying patterns, store and pharmacy density, pharmacy care access, and community health needs.

While the company has not released a list of specific locations that will be closed, some CVS stores have already announced scheduled closures in states such as Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Indiana, Maryland, Texas, and others.

Despite the closures, CVS plans to open 30 new pharmacy locations in 2025, including those inside Target stores. The company believes that even after the realignment work, 85% of people in the US will still live within 10 miles of a CVS Pharmacy.

A spokesperson for CVS stated that store closure decisions are not driven by industry pressures but rather by the need to better meet consumers’ health, wellness, and pharmacy care needs.
