Google has rolled out a new feature in its Gmail app for Workspace users, allowing them to automatically summarize lengthy email threads at a glance. The AI-powered summary card will be displayed at the top of the email thread, providing key points from multiple messages. This feature uses Google’s AI assistant to generate and update summaries as more replies come in.
For now, the feature is only available for emails written in English and requires users to have personalization smart features enabled in Gmail, Chat, Meet, and Workspace. However, for non-Workspace accounts or desktop Gmail, users can still tap the “Summarize this email” option at the top.
In addition to summarizing emails, Gemini will help draft new emails and find information within the inbox or Drive files. Google CEO Sundar Pichai introduced Personalized Smart Replies, an upcoming feature that uses past emails and files to draft responses with relevant information in a tone matching the user’s typical style.
