Hamas Rejects US Ceasefire Proposal with Conditions

The militant group Hamas has responded to a US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, releasing its mediators’ response and announcing the release of 10 living and 18 deceased hostages. However, the deal is not yet sealed as Hamas seeks additional demands, including a comprehensive withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and an end to the war. The US had proposed a 60-day ceasefire, which Israel had accepted earlier in the week. The conflict has claimed over 54,000 Palestinian lives since its onset nearly 20 months ago, with Hamas militants initially attacking Israel, killing around 1,200 people.
