In a recent investor note, GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu has made some significant predictions about the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. According to Pu, most of the models will use the same A18 chip as the current iPhone 16, rather than the previously predicted A19 chip. Instead, the base model iPhone 17 and Air will feature an A18 processor.
However, what’s notable is that the RAM specifications have been mixed up. Pu now predicts that the base model iPhone 17 will use 8GB of RAM, while the iPhone 17 Air will come with 12GB, similar to the Pro models. This contradicts Ming-Chi Kuo’s previous report stating that Dynamic Island sizes across all iPhone 17 models will remain largely unchanged.
Additionally, Pu suggests that the metalens technology for proximity sensors will be adopted by all four iPhone 17 models, which could lead to a reduced size of the Face ID sensor and potentially smaller Dynamic Islands. This would mean that even lower-end models will benefit from this design change.
Pu’s breakdown of the iPhone 17 lineup specifications is as follows:
