University of Michigan’s Peony Garden Vandalized Over Anti-Israel Message

A vandal targeted the University of Michigan’s peony garden over the weekend, cutting off about a third of the flowers and leaving 100 signs with an anti-Israel message. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, just after 6 a.m., when police were notified by authorities.

The garden, part of the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum, is valued for its beauty and community significance. Director Tony Kolenic condemned the act, calling it “an act of disregard not just for the garden, but for the community that cherishes it.”

University officials have denounced the vandalism as unacceptable and are urging community members to engage in constructive dialogue. The Division of Public Safety & Security (DPSS) is investigating and pursuing criminal charges against those responsible.
