Epic Games’ highly anticipated first-person mode, Fortnite Ballistic, is set to launch next week in early access within the main Fortnite client. This new 5v5 mode marks Epic’s first proper foray into first-person gameplay, a move that has been long-awaited by some fans.
Ballistic arrives on December 11th with one map, Skyline 10, and a limited number of weapons and items. However, these will be expanded over time based on player feedback from the game’s developers.
In Ballistic, matches begin with players sorted into teams as either attackers or defenders. Attackers must deploy a payload, while defenders must stop them. Players swap sides after six rounds, and the game is over when one team wins a seventh round in total.
The mode features a unique loadout system, where players pick from five Flex Gadgets at the start of each match. These gadgets can be used to gain an advantage, such as deploying proxy mines or bubble shields. The different loadouts seem more customizable compared to other Fortnite shooter modes.
Ballistic will host both Ranked and Unranked modes, with the former offering a ladder to climb and penalties for leaving matches. This new mode follows the recent launch of Chapter 6 and the addition of Fortnite OG as a newly-permanent mode.
