IndiGo Places Firm Order for 30 Airbus A350-900s

Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, according to CEO Pieter Elbers. This is part of the airline’s ongoing expansion plans, which include operating flights to 10 new overseas cities. With this latest order, IndiGo will have over 1,000 aircraft in its fleet by next decade.

IndiGo operates over 350 aircraft currently and has already placed orders for 500 Airbus single-aisle planes by 2023, making it the largest contract in history of civil aviation. The airline’s order book stands at almost 1,000 aircraft yet to be delivered, comprising A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR models.

The latest order will be powered by Rolls Royce’s Trent XWB engine. IndiGo aims to double its fleet in the next decade by adding one aircraft per week. The airline recently reported a 62% on-year rise in net profit due to the travel boom during the Maha Kumbh mela and wedding season, making it India’s largest airline.

As part of its expansion plans, IndiGo will continue to operate flights to new overseas cities with leased Boeing 787 planes by March 2026. The airline’s board has also announced a dividend of ₹10 per share for the fiscal year ended March 31.
