SpaceX has successfully added 27 new satellites to its Starlink constellation with the launch of a Falcon 9 rocket from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Station. The launch, which took place on May 31, marked another significant milestone in SpaceX’s efforts to provide broadband internet access to underserved areas around the world.
The Falcon 9 rocket carrying the 27 satellites lifted off at 1:10 p.m. PDT and successfully deployed the spacecraft just under an hour later. According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the Starlink network is crucial for expanding internet access beyond current limitations and will play a key role in enabling humanity’s plans for space exploration.
The deployment of new satellites brings the total number of active Starlink spacecraft to over 7,600 units out of nearly 8,790 deployed. With this latest addition, SpaceX has continued its mission to revolutionize satellite-based internet services, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.
