India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has entered an agreement with three international carriers – Air France-KLM, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta – to expand its long-haul services to North America, Europe, and Britain. The partnership will enable IndiGo to sell flights under its own name on those operated by partners out of India, starting July.
IndiGo will start flying to Amsterdam and Manchester from July, while Air France-KLM already code-share with IndiGo on domestic flights. The Delta partnership is new, but US carrier Delta has committed to restarting direct services from the United States to India over the next couple of years.
The agreement expands IndiGo’s network, following its firm orders for 30 Airbus A350 jets. The airline aims to grow its fleet to 600 aircraft by 2030 and has been leasing planes to expand internationally.
IndiGo will operate nonstop flights between Atlanta and Delhi, subject to government approval, a joint statement said. The partnership is seen as crucial in IndiGo’s expansion plans, driven by its extensive domestic network in India and its goal of becoming the world’s third-largest airline.
