A cybersecurity researcher has discovered a secret database containing login credentials for over 184 million accounts across various platforms, including social media, gaming, and tech companies. Jeremiah Fowler, a data-breach hunter, found an unprotected database of 184,162,718 login records spread across more than 47 gigabytes of data.
The breach includes login information for Facebook (479 accounts), Google (475 accounts), Instagram (240 accounts), Roblox (227 accounts), Discord (209 accounts), and several other popular services. Government entities from around the world are also affected, including .gov accounts with potential access to sensitive state networks and data.
Fowler believes a cybercriminal is responsible for the massive collection of login data and notes that the password field was labeled as “Senha” in Portuguese. However, the exact origins of the database remain unknown, and Fowler cannot confirm whether anyone else accessed the files during the breach.
The exposed data puts millions of users at risk, vulnerable to corporate espionage, phishing, social engineering, account takeovers, and other types of attacks. The authenticity of the discovery has been verified, and the entire dataset has now been taken down.
