Measles Confirmed in Colorado Springs, Public Warned to Watch for Symptoms

Colorado health officials have confirmed measles in two El Paso County residents, who are unvaccinated and recovering at home. The cases are linked to an out-of-state traveler who flew while infectious.

Residents who visited the following locations during specified times should monitor themselves for measles symptoms for 21 days and consider avoiding public gatherings:

* Love’s Travel Stop/Carl’s Jr (Grand Junction) on May 27 from 6:00-10:00 p.m.
* Maverick Gas Station (Colorado Springs) on May 28 from 9:00-11:30 a.m.
* King Soopers (Colorado Springs) on May 31 from 8:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

Measles symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash. The MMR vaccine provides strong protection against the disease.

Those who visited during the exposure period and developed symptoms should contact their healthcare provider immediately. Uninsured individuals can call urgent care centers or emergency departments for assistance. This brings the total number of cases to six, with four passengers on a flight and two El Paso County residents exposed at Denver International Airport.
