Apple’s next desktop operating system for Macs, rumored to be called macOS Tahoe, may replace macOS 15 Sequoia, according to tech leak Mark Gurman. Here are three key features to expect from the new OS.
macOS 16 (or macOS 26) is expected to be announced at WWDC 2025, which kicks off on June 9, although a release date has not been officially confirmed. Apple typically deploys its new version of macOS in September or October, so it’s likely that macOS Tahoe will roll out to Macs around that time.
One major change rumored for Tahoe is a revamped look, similar to the design language alignment plan announced by Apple. This would provide a more consistent and uniform look across all Apple devices, including iOS, iPadOS, and other platforms.
In addition to its new interface, macOS 16 (or 26) will reportedly include a range of accessibility features, such as Personal Voice, which can capture the voice of someone who is losing their ability to talk, and Magnifier for Mac, which uses your iPhone or a USB camera to zoom in on distant writing. Accessibility Reader can also take images of book pages and show them on the display, allowing users to zoom in or change font sizes.
Another rumored feature is a Wi-Fi timesaver, which would unify public Wi-Fi logins across multiple Apple devices, making it easier for users to access online content without having to fill out forms on each device. With this feature, users can complete the form on their MacBook and be automatically connected to the same network on their iPhone and iPad.
While these features are still unconfirmed and subject to change, they provide a glimpse into what Apple may have in store for its next desktop operating system.
