Vikings OTAs: Jefferson, McCarthy, and Defensive Line Shine in Practice

The Minnesota Vikings are 68 days away from their first exhibition game against the Texans, and the team is hard at work during Organized Team Activities (OTAs). The practice saw several key developments that highlight the team’s progress.

Star wide receiver Justin Jefferson was back on the field, strengthening his rapport with quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Jefferson expressed his excitement to learn from McCarthy and connect with him on a deeper level, acknowledging the importance of their relationship in achieving success on the field.

Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips praised the team’s ownership, coaching staff, and players, saying that they feel confident and motivated to perform well this season. The entire team is eager to prove themselves and make their coaches and organization proud.

On the field, the Vikings offense showed promise in their 11-on-11 setting, working in off-tackle runs and exercises on combination blocks. Quarterbacks McCarthy, Sam Howell, Brett Rypien, and Max Brosmer took advantage of the favorable weather conditions to complete passes and gain yards.

In a notable display, Isaiah Rodgers, signed this offseason as a Super Bowl champion, showed his pedigree and ability by reading and jumping a mid-level pass from McCarthy. However, he missed a back-to-back attempt on Jefferson later in practice.

The offensive line also underwent some changes during the practice, with Justin Skule starting at left tackle alongside Donovan Jackson, Ryan Kelly, Blake Brandel, and Brian O’Neill. Christian Darrisaw was non-participant due to rehabilitation for a season-ending knee injury, while Will Fries is recovering from a broken leg.

Overall, the Vikings’ OTAs provided an encouraging glimpse into their team’s progress and development ahead of the 2025 season.
