Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 to Get Qi2 Support

Samsung has listed a new device that supports the Qi 2.1.0 version of wireless charging, suggesting that it will be the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, this support may not be “proper” Qi2 support as expected.

The Wireless Power Consortium published a listing for a device with model number SM-D637U, which does not fit into any other Samsung line-up. Although the exact details are scarce, it appears that this new device is indeed one of Samsung’s upcoming foldables.

A closer look at the model numbers suggests that they may be different from previous devices to avoid revealing too much about the new products before their launch. The listing confirms that this device will have a new profile and supports the Qi 2.1.0 update, making it “Qi2 Ready” rather than having full Qi2 support.

This certification means that the device can work with cases that add a magnetic ring for charger alignment and accessories. Samsung has been introducing this feature as part of the Qi 2.1.0 update earlier this year, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be one of the first foldables to adopt it.

The announcement of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is set for July, where Samsung will unveil both the Fold 7 and Flip 7 models.
