Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons has been “in and out” of voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) as he seeks a contract extension. Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones stated that discussions between Parsons and the team are ongoing, but no update is available.
Parsons arrived late to practice after a flight cancellation, sparking concerns about his absence from OTAs. However, Jones reassured that his absence is not unusual for players in this situation.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed optimism about Parsons’ attendance at mandatory minicamp next week. The two have maintained good communication, with Schottenheimer stating that everything they discussed will be resolved.
Trevon Diggs, the Cowboys’ cornerbacks coach, has been recovering from a season-ending knee surgery and has not attended OTAs. Jones reported that Diggs is doing his work remotely and expects him to join the team for mandatory minicamp next week. The recovery process is ongoing, with no clear timetable for Diggs’ return.
The cornerback position is facing uncertainty due to injuries to multiple players. However, Jones expressed optimism about the depth pieces on the team, particularly Trevon Diggs, Kaiir Elam, and Caelen Carson. Cornerback DaRon Bland has been adjusting to playing inside the slot after moving from his preferred outside role.
Jones emphasized that the Cowboys’ new mantra – “Compete every day” – will guide the team’s decision-making until the injured players return healthy. The team began OTAs on May 28, laying the groundwork for the 2025 season with focused drills and fresh energy.
