Google has introduced a new feature called “Catch me up” that uses AI-powered Gemini to monitor changes made to files in your Google Drive while you’re away. This feature will provide a summary of the changes, including edits to Google Docs and comments on documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more.
Starting Wednesday, users can access this feature by clicking the new “Catch me up” button under “ask Gemini” at the top of their Google Drive folder. The feature will also display a summary in the Gemini side panel, similar to how it summarizes email summaries in Gmail.
The ability to summarize file changes comes just days after Google introduced another Gemini-powered feature that watches videos for you, including work meetings. However, the “Catch me up” feature is only available in English right now and may take up to 15 days to reach all users.
Additionally, users can turn off the feature if they prefer not to see it. To do so, head to Gmail settings (not available in Drive settings) and toggle off Google Workspace smart features under the General tab.
This new feature aims to help users stay on top of changes made to their files while they’re away, but its accuracy may vary due to Gemini’s limitations.
