GameStop has faced criticism from customers after reports emerged that some units of the newly released Nintendo Switch 2 have been damaged by staples used to hold receipts onto their packaging. The issue affects several customers who claimed that store employees stapled receipts directly onto the console’s box, causing punctures in the screen.
One customer, Oadhan Lynch, stated on social media that GameStop “stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box.” Another customer reported a similar issue at a GameStop location in Staten Island, NY. Despite initial concerns about the console’s functionality, affected units appear to be fully functional with only minor damage.
GameStop and Nintendo are expected to provide replacements as soon as possible. However, shipping replacement consoles may take time due to high demand and increased production costs for the Switch 2. The new console features a larger LCD screen, improved Nvidia chip, and upgraded Joy-Cons at a $449.99 price tag, but retailers have already sold out of stock in many areas.
The practice of stapling receipts onto packaging has sparked debate about its effectiveness versus simply handing over the receipt separately.
