IO Interactive, the developer of Hitman: World of Assassination, is finally bringing its take on James Bond to life with a new game titled 007 First Light. The game was originally announced in 2020 as “Project 007,” but has now been confirmed to be called 007 First Light and will tell a James Bond origin story.
The trailer that debuted during Sony’s State of Play event revealed early moments from the game, showcasing the young Bond’s training in the Navy. IO Interactive’s approach is deliberately different from previous Bond games, which often drew inspiration from existing plots or visual depictions from the franchise.
In contrast, 007 First Light will create an original version of the character that isn’t based on one of the films. The game’s future has been shrouded in uncertainty due to changes in the James Bond film franchise’s creative leadership, but IO Interactive has confirmed it will be released in 2026 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of the James Bond film series, IO Interactive is taking a bold step in reimagining the iconic character with its new game.
