If your Midea U air conditioner has been recalled due to mold growth, you may be eligible for a refund or repair. Here’s how to check if your unit is affected and what steps to take.
To find out if your Midea U is recalled, go to the special website set up by Midea to validate recall claims. Enter your model number and serial number to confirm coverage. You can also check the list of affected models on the website.
If you have a moldy unit, it’s best to get a refund. Follow these steps to inspect your AC:
1. Unplug the unit.
2. Open the louver (where cold air comes out).
3. Remove the air-intake grill and filter.
4. Use a phone light or flashlight to peer into the vent outlet.
Check for blue fan blades, as moldy units will have splotches on the blades and an unpleasant odor. Inspect the zone beneath the vent for condenser fins and drip tray.
Once you’ve confirmed your unit is affected or has mold, follow these steps:
1. Fill out the refund application form.
2. Download and install the Truepic Vision app to submit evidence of disabling the power cord.
3. Take a photo of the cut power cord with the serial number in view.
4. Submit the photo and receive your refund.
Midea says it takes 3-5 weeks to process most refunds. Once you receive your refund, dispose of the unit according to local regulations or use a prepaid shipping label for recycling.
Consider replacing your Midea U with alternative air conditioners like the Hisense Ultraslim or LG inverter AC, which offer better sound-separating designs and longer warranties.
