Apple is gearing up to release two new MagSafe chargers that promise faster wireless charging speeds. The new chargers, model numbers A3503 and A3502, support the upcoming Qi 2.2 standard, which is expected to allow speeds of up to 50W. However, Apple may not reach this maximum limit. Based on images from a Taiwanese regulatory filing, the white charging puck is likely to support up to 45W speeds.
This faster charging speed is a significant improvement over existing MagSafe models, which were released last year and top out at 25W with a 30W power adapter. The new Qi 2.2-based charger has been tested on iPhone 16 and iPhone 11 models, suggesting compatibility with later iPhone models as well.
It’s unclear if the faster charging speed will result in higher prices for the MagSafe charger. Currently, the 1-meter cable variant costs $39, while the 2-meter variant costs $49.
Apple’s involvement in the Qi charging standard is notable, as it has contributed to the development of the standard and lent its MagSafe technology to build the WPC.
