Bruins Name 14th Head Coach Marco Sturm

Boston Bruins new head coach Marco Sturm is no stranger to the city’s hockey scene. With a deep understanding of the team, its fans, and the streets, he knows what makes Boston hockey great. Now, as he begins his coaching journey, he’ll be tasked with building another golden era.

Sturm’s arrival comes at a time when the Bruins are looking to revamp their roster. After a struggling season in 2005-06, the team made key signings like Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard, which set the stage for one of the best stretches in franchise history. Sturm experienced this firsthand as a player, where he had to part with core players to rebuild.

As Bruins head coach, Sturm aims to replicate this success by filling gaps with talented young players. He believes his strength lies in building teams up and working with different types of players. His playing experience in Boston, which included 106 goals and 193 points over five seasons, will serve as a foundation for his coaching career.

“I’ve been through it as a player,” Sturm said. “We had to part with some good core guys, but we added great pieces and made the team grow.” This combination of experience and strategy will be key in Sturm’s quest to build another winning Bruins team.
