Schools Serve Fast Food to Students via Partnership with Domino’s

The Channelview High School in Houston has a unique partnership with Domino’s Pizza through their “Smart Slice” initiative, where pizzas are delivered to the school every Monday and Wednesday. This program is part of the national school-lunch program and aims to provide students with lunch at little or no cost to themselves. However, critics argue that this partnership sends the wrong message about healthy eating habits.

While some see Domino’s as a welcome treat for kids, others believe it undermines the importance of teaching nutrition in schools. Director of Nutrition Tanya Edwards notes that serving Domino’s makes a “huge difference” for students’ eating habits, but others disagree. The program has raised questions about the balance between providing healthy food options and catering to student demand for convenience foods like pizza.
