Google Simplifies Gemini Android App with UI Changes

Google has rolled out minor updates to its Gemini Android app, simplifying key controls and making its conversational AI assistant easier to access. The latest stable version (16.21) brings back the familiar list view for the ‘+’ menu, which previously featured a side-by-side pill layout.

The update also tweaks the prompt box chips, with Video generation now appearing first in the bar. Additionally, the tools’ descriptions have been updated with a new half-circle logo for Canvas. More significantly, Gemini Live access has been improved, allowing users to trigger the conversational assistant by swiping from the right side of the screen towards the left.

This gesture is expected to become available soon in the stable version, offering a more intuitive way to access Gemini Live without relying on the dedicated icon. While accessing Live via the power button remains the fastest option, the swipe gesture should provide a convenient alternative for those already within the app.
