Porsche has unveiled a one-off, road-legal version of its 963 hypercar, inspired by the iconic 917 that won multiple endurance racing world titles. The new car features a 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid powerplant, producing an incredible 671bhp.
The project was initiated to mark 50 years since Count Rossi’s all-conquering Porsche 917 driven from Zuffenhausen to Paris. Like its predecessor, the 963 RSP is designed to be a “race car” on the road, with a focus on beautiful materials and attention to detail.
Key modifications include a raised ride height, adjustable dampers, and a special ECU remap to smooth out power delivery. The interior features bespoke materials, including soft tan leather and carbon fiber, while the exterior is painted in a unique “Martini Silver” colour verified by Porsche records as being the same as Count Rossi’s 917.
The car has been tailored for its sole customer, Roger Penske, with some modifications to ensure it meets road-legal requirements. However, Porsche is leaving the door open for potential future production, acknowledging that the project is part of the brand’s DNA and may evolve based on public feedback.
With a focus on performance and attention to detail, the 963 RSP is an extraordinary addition to Porsche’s lineup, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and its rich racing heritage.
