Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial heard audio recordings that show the singer sent threatening messages to his former girlfriend, Jane, who is a key witness for the prosecution. The recordings were played in court on Friday as prosecutors sought to demonstrate that Combs and his inner circle used violence, threats, and drugs to coerce Jane into having sex with other men.
Combs, charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, has pleaded not guilty. His defense team acknowledges that he was violent but questions the motives of those testifying, saying the women consented to their sexual activity.
In 2021, Jane expressed her desire for a break from Combs, writing “I need a breather and a break from you. This doesn’t make me feel good at all.” Combs responded with an audio message, telling her to “go crazy” and that she didn’t deserve him. In another exchange, he threatened to stop supporting Jane financially if she didn’t comply with his demands.
Jane testified that she understood her role was to “take care of him, be good to him, and make sure he’s happy,” which included the sexual encounters. She also stated that Combs gave her a $10,000 monthly allowance, which she used to pay for her home and son. Jane claims that during hotel nights, which lasted longer than 24 hours with no sleep, Combs would give her ecstasy to keep her awake.
The audio recordings provide evidence of the coercive tactics used by Combs and his associates. Jane is expected to take the stand again on Monday as the trial enters its fifth week of testimony.
