Porsche is set to make a historic appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with its latest creation, the 963 RSP Hypercar. This road-going version of the legendary racing car was unveiled earlier this year and is being driven by former Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard.
The 963 RSP shares many similarities with its racing counterpart, including a hybrid V-8 engine that produces 680 horsepower. However, it has been modified to accept standard fuel from gas pumps, allowing drivers to take it out on public roads.
To make the car more comfortable and special, Porsche gave it a unique Martini Silver exterior coat, unlike any of the competition cars. The interior features tan leather and Alcantara, similar to its racing counterpart, the Count Rossi 917.
During its test drive outside Le Mans, Bernhard was impressed with the car’s performance, saying it felt “unreal” and “friendly” compared to the standard 963 model. Porsche made several changes to the car, including lifting it, modifying electronics, and installing a horn.
The company had to obtain special permission from French authorities to drive the car on public roads and secure a license plate. Despite these challenges, the 963 RSP is an exciting addition to Porsche’s lineup, with its hybrid powertrain and unique features making it stand out.
