BowFlex Dumbbell Recall: Safety Measures in Place

A voluntary recall has been issued for over 3.8 million units of BowFlex 552 and 1090 Adjustable Dumbbells due to weight plates coming off during use, posing an impact hazard. The affected dumbbells were sold by BowFlex, Inc. (formerly Nautilus, Inc.) between April 23, 2024, and May 2025.

The recall includes black dumbbells with red accents, featuring handles, weight plates, and a plastic tray. Users are advised to stop using the dumbbells immediately and fill out a claim form on BowFlex’s website. To complete the form, users will need their contact information, purchase details, product information (model and serial number), and other relevant details.

Johnson Health Tech Trading has received reports of 12 incidents, while Nautilus reported 337 incidents resulting in injuries to 111 people. To address this issue, the company has developed safer versions of the dumbbells designed to comply with stricter safety standards.

Customers who purchased their dumbbells from Nautilus can use a prorated refund voucher toward buying new dumbbells once they are available. Those who have been injured by their BowFlex dumbbells should immediately report the injury to the CPSC.
