Los Angeles (LA) has long struggled with its public transit system, but the recent opening of the LAX/Metro Transit Center marks a significant improvement. Starting today, June 6, access to the Los Angeles International Airport will be more streamlined for Angelenos and visitors alike.
The new station, located at 9225 Aviation Boulevard, closes the final gap in the K Line, providing direct rail connections from Expo/Crenshaw to Redondo Beach and the airport. It’s also the terminus of the C line, which starts in Norwalk and connects with other lines, making it easier for residents and visitors to reach LAX.
The station offers seamless transfers between light rail lines, buses, Metro Bike Share, and rideshare service Metro Micro, providing a convenient and car-free experience. While there aren’t dining or shopping options at the station, passengers will find public restrooms, customer service centers, and automated bike storage.
The LAX/Metro Transit Center is an ambitious project that’s part of Metro’s Twenty-Eight by ’28 initiative, prioritizing connectivity to major sports venues for the upcoming Olympics. The station features 11 elevators, 12 escalators, and nine staircases, accommodating up to 5,000 passengers per hour.
The new system will also include a free Los Angeles World Airports shuttle to LAX, which will run every 10 minutes, until the long-awaited Automated People Mover is ready. The APM will allow travelers to bypass traffic on their way to terminals when it opens in early 2026.
While there’s still work to be done, the LAX/Metro Transit Center is a significant step forward for LA’s public transit system, making the airport experience easier and more accessible for everyone.
