Sarah Jessica Parker Surprised by Backlash Against Che Diaz Character

Sarah Jessica Parker says she was “shocked” to learn that some fans disliked Che Diaz, the nonbinary stand-up comedian character played by Sara Ramírez on the HBO series And Just Like That. The actress behind Carrie Bradshaw made the statement in a new interview with The Guardian.

Ramírez ultimately left the show after season 2, in which their character and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) called it quits, and shared a statement distancing themselves from Che before departure. In previous interviews, Ramírez had said that playing Che was “absolutely exhausting” but also fulfilling, as it allowed them to play an extroverted character.

Nixon acknowledged Ramírez’s departure and expressed her fondness for the actor, saying they are in touch about various topics including Palestine. However, she noted that the on-screen relationship between Miranda and Che had run its course by season 2.

In contrast, Nixon believes the show works best when its central characters are single and dating, as seen with Rosie O’Donnell’s guest appearance in season 3. The actress expressed her excitement about collaborating with O’Donnell, who played a one-night stand for Miranda.
