Apple and Sony are collaborating on a significant development for the Vision Pro headset. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the two companies have been working together for several months to bring support for PlayStation VR2 hand controllers to the Vision Pro. This partnership aims to enhance the gaming experience with precise VR controls.
Currently, PS5 and Xbox controllers are supported by Vision Pro, but they lack the six degrees of freedom needed for immersive VR experiences. The introduction of Sony’s VR2 controllers as an optional accessory will address this issue.
Beyond gaming, the new controllers can also improve productivity tasks and media editing on visionOS. Users will be able to navigate the operating system using the controller’s thumb stick and directional pad, and the trigger button could replace the finger pinch gesture for selection.
The partnership comes as Apple faces challenges with Vision Pro adoption. Despite its February launch, fewer than 500,000 units have been sold, raising concerns about market demand. The exact timing of the announcement remains uncertain, but this development may help boost sales by enhancing the VR gaming experience.
