The Green Bay Packers have officially released cornerback Jaire Alexander, citing his inability to recover from injuries and maintain his on-field performance. General Manager Brian Gutekunst expressed gratitude for Alexander’s contributions to the team but acknowledged that the cornerback’s health issues made him expendable.
Alexander was set to earn a base salary of $16.15 million this season but will now free up $17 million in cap space after being released post-June 1. The Packers will retain $10 million of his remaining contract obligation through the 2026 cap. Alexander played only 14 regular-season games over the past two seasons, with a cumulative total of 38 missed games due to injuries.
Alexander’s decision not to participate in voluntary offseason work and instead train on his own may have contributed to the Packers’ decision to release him. The cornerback had previously made All-Pro in 2020 and 2022 but struggled with recurring knee and shoulder issues, ultimately leading to a significant pay cut that Alexander refused. He is now set to become a free agent.
