Warren Demands Contingency Plans for US National Security Amid Musk-Trump Fallout

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is urging the Trump administration to prepare contingency plans for national security after a public spat between President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk escalated into an online conflict. In a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, obtained by CBS News, Warren expressed concern that the dispute could “jeopardize U.S. national security.”

The Massachusetts Democrat asked for information on potential risks to US agencies’ satellite communications if SpaceX’s Starlink service is disrupted and for analysis on the Trump administration’s options under the Defense Production Act to address vendor lock and monopolies.

Warren has been critical of Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration, citing instances where she believes Musk benefited from it. The billionaire’s company has received tens of billions of dollars in federal grants over the last decade, including $3.8 billion in the 2024 fiscal year alone.

Trump responded to questions about his relationship with Musk, saying he has no plans to make up with the billionaire and may consider rolling back subsidies for SpaceX. However, he emphasized that any decision would be “fair for him and for the country.”
