Qualcomm to Acquire Alphawave Semi for $2.4 Billion

Qualcomm has agreed to buy UK-based semiconductor company Alphawave Semi for approximately $2.4 billion. The acquisition is aimed at expanding Qualcomm’s data center business, according to CEO Cristiano Amon.

The combined teams will focus on developing advanced technology solutions and enhancing connected computing performance in areas like data center infrastructure, Amon said. This deal comes after Qualcomm’s recent purchases of a generative AI division from Vietnamese startup VinAI and internet of things company Edge Impulse.

Qualcomm seeks to diversify its portfolio due to challenges facing the smartphone market, where processors generate a significant portion of revenue. The acquisition is expected to be completed by early 2026.
