Huntington Park Protests Trump Immigration Raids

Protesters in Huntington Park gathered Monday to voice their outrage over President Donald Trump’s immigration actions. The group, which included dozens of people, surrounded the intersection of Florence Avenue and Pacific Boulevard for hours, performing “donut” stunts.

Huntington Park police eventually intervened, clearing out some of the crowd in the evening. Earlier that morning, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement carried out a raid at a local Home Depot, taking away day laborers.

Local officials condemned the raids, saying Trump is needlessly terrorizing their communities. “What we’re seeing is arbitrary enforcement of anybody that essentially looks or might be Latino in areas where they might be trying to find work or employment,” said Mayor Arturo Flores.

The mayor also shared a personal story about an elementary school graduation ceremony that turned into chaos when a rumor began circulating that ICE was outside. Councilmember Nancy Martiz added, “If we want to go after criminals, I know of a convicted criminal in the White House that does not deserve that job.”

However, an LAUSD spokesperson disputed this account, stating that the graduation ceremony went smoothly and without incident.
