1.7M Eggs Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk

A voluntary recall has been issued for over 1.7 million eggs sold in nine US states due to the risk of salmonella contamination. August Egg Company is recalling brown cage-free and organic eggs distributed between February 3 and May 15, 2025.

The FDA reports that a linked outbreak has sickened 79 people, with 21 hospitalizations. No deaths have been reported so far. The company initiated the recall as a precaution after discovering possible Salmonella enteritidis contamination in their processing plant.

Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled eggs and should discard or return them to the place of purchase. The CDC states that while most people can recover from salmonella infection within 4-7 days, certain populations such as young children, pregnant women, and older adults may experience more severe symptoms.

Symptoms of salmonella include fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and vomiting. If you have experienced these symptoms or have concerns about the recalled eggs, contact a doctor or healthcare provider immediately.
