Gaza Aid Crisis: 120 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Strikes

A humanitarian crisis unfolds in Gaza as Israel’s relentless bombardment and killings at aid sites have resulted in over 120 Palestinian deaths in the past 24 hours, including dozens of aid seekers who were trying to access food. The death toll has now surpassed 55,000 people, with many more injured.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that 57 people attempting to receive aid were killed and over 363 injured by Israel since Wednesday morning. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US- and Israeli-backed organization, operates distribution points in tightly controlled zones, where the Israeli military has described its system as a “dramatic success,” sparking international condemnation.

The isolated aid sites have been branded “human slaughterhouses” as over 220 people have been killed while seeking meager food parcels for their families. The Israeli army admitted to firing warning shots in the area of the Netzarim Corridor, where most aid seekers were reported killed overnight.

The United Nations has condemned the killings and refused to supply aid via the GHF, citing a breach of humanitarian standards. UNRWA called the aid distribution model “a distraction from the ongoing atrocities” and said it is ready to reach people in need without relying on private contractors with Israeli military backup.

Israel’s chaotic and violence-plagued aid system is deliberately structured to keep Palestinians desperate and hungry, say experts. The GHF’s stated aim of providing 1,750 calories worth of food per person per day falls short of the minimum standard for crisis situations.

As the conflict continues, children are bearing the brunt of Israel’s ongoing assault. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the total death toll from Israel’s war has risen to 55,104 since October 7, 2023, with many more injured. The UNICEF spokesperson described the situation as “a war on children” where doctors’ efforts are being hindered by violence and brutality.

The arrest of Madleen crew members who were trying to break the Israeli siege remains a contentious issue, with Israel deporting four activists and holding eight others in detention. Human rights groups have called for their immediate release, citing arbitrary and unlawful arrests.
