Katie Couric Speaks Out on Matt Lauer Scandal

Katie Couric has shared her thoughts on the Matt Lauer scandal, revealing her concerns for his well-being after he was fired from her show. In a text message to him, she offered words of support and a kiss emoji, which he replied with.

As more details about Lauer’s behavior emerged, Couric was still worried about him and his family. However, she felt hesitant to visit him or offer help due to concerns about damaging her own reputation.

The scandal also involved Addie Collins Zinone, who alleged that she had a month-long affair with Lauer in 2000. Couric reached out to Zinone in 2019 and met up with her in Los Angeles, where she learned that the affair was consensual but not something she could have stopped.

In her first interview addressing the scandal, published on January 13, 2018, Couric described the accusations as “disturbing, distressing, and disorienting.” She stated that she had no knowledge of Lauer’s behavior during her tenure or after she left the show. Despite this, she felt betrayed by him due to his actions behind closed doors.

The two have since stopped speaking, with Couric expressing sadness at being perceived as a betrayer by Lauer.
