Apple has released an update to its mixed reality headset, visionOS 26, which brings significant improvements to the platform’s features. Two standout upgrades are the revamped Personas and the introduction of Widgets.
Personas, the spatial avatars created based on your likeness using onboard cameras, have been redesigned with a more natural and realistic design. The new facial expressions and eye movements are less rigid, making them more comfortable to wear. You can even see the entire side view of the head, and hair textures and skin complexions are improved.
Widgets, which allow you to place digital objects around your home, have also been enhanced. A map of your home is stored privately on your device, ensuring widgets remain in the same places even when rebooted or glanced at again. The list of placeable widgets includes a digital photo frame that can display more of the image as you approach it.
The latest update aims to enhance user experience, making it easier to interact with spatial objects and virtual spaces. However, concerns about user adoption and comfort remain. Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper version of the Vision Pro, which may address these issues and improve public reception.
