19-Year-Old UWI Student Fights Stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma

A 19-year-old University of the West Indies (UWI) student, Kristopher Mohamed, is fighting for his life against stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma. The teenager has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system and has been told he needs US$130,000 in treatment.

Mohamed was initially diagnosed with pneumonia after experiencing severe chest pain but later found out that his symptoms were caused by Hodgkin lymphoma through further tests. He has since received medical information at every step and is determined to stay positive despite the mental toll of his diagnosis.

The National Library of Medicine reports a high cure rate for Hodgkin lymphoma in children, adolescents, and young adults, with survival rates exceeding 90% and a five-year survival rate of around 88%. Mohamed remains hopeful and believes he can beat the cancer with proper treatment.

Mohamed’s loved ones have been a source of strength, while his diagnosis has also sparked an outpouring of support from people who have experienced similar illnesses. He is now focusing on raising funds to complete his medical degree and living a long, healthy life despite his illness.
