King Charles Marks Father’s Day Amid Royal Rift

King Charles marked Father’s Day on June 15 by sharing a heartfelt post on his official Instagram account, which he shares with Queen Camilla. The post featured a black-and-white photo of him as a young boy being pushed on a swing by his late father Prince Philip and another of Queen Camilla with her late father Major Bruce Shand.

The caption read: “To all Dads everywhere, we wish you a happy Father’s Day today.” This was just a day after the third Trooping the Colour ceremony of King Charles’ reign. Notably, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not invited to attend the ceremony.

Prince Harry has been at odds with his father since 2020 when he stepped back from royal duties and moved to California with his family. A major point of tension is the loss of taxpayer-funded security in the UK after stepping back from royal life. The judge dismissed his appeal on May 2, with his lawyers describing it as a “fight for his life.”

In an interview with the BBC, Prince Harry expressed hope for reconciliation with his family, saying: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.” However, he also stated that King Charles “won’t speak to me.”
