Renault’s parent company, Alpine, will be led by a new CEO after its current leader, Luca de Meo, steps down next month. De Meo became CEO of the Renault Group in 2020 and oversaw the transformation of the company, including the creation of a new business unit combining Alpine and Renault Sport.
However, his tenure has also been marred by controversy surrounding Alpine’s Formula 1 team. Despite achieving its first victory since returning to F1 as a works team in 2016, the team has struggled with instability and poor performance, scoring last place in the championship last year.
De Meo has rejigged the leadership team multiple times, leading to speculation about the future of the team. His departure creates two major questions: Will Renault consider selling Alpine’s F1 team due to its increased value, despite its current competitiveness issues? And what will happen to Flavio Briatore, who was recruited by de Meo as an executive advisor but has been accused of holding significant influence over the team and earning a substantial salary. A new CEO has been appointed, according to Renault’s succession plan.
