Bridge Collapse in India Leaves 32 Injured and 2 Dead

A bridge collapse on Sunday at a popular tourist destination in Maharashtra, western India, has left two people dead and 32 others injured. The incident occurred in the Kundamala area of Pune district, which has witnessed heavy rains over the past few days.

Local authorities confirmed that six people were hospitalized in critical condition, while an intense search operation is ongoing to locate those swept away by the river. Police have deployed teams from the National Disaster Response Force and other units to conduct rescue operations.

The collapse of the iron bridge was reported not to be related to heavy rain at the time of the incident, which also affects a popular area for picnickers. The accident highlights India’s long-standing infrastructure safety concerns, which have led to numerous disasters in the past, including the 2022 cable suspension bridge collapse in Gujarat that killed over 132 people.
