Bruce the Bat Dog Makes Major League Debut

The Washington Nationals have called up top Minor League performer Bruce the Bat Dog from Triple-A Rochester. The Golden Retriever, who is 1 year and nine months old in “people years,” will make his first career Major League assignment. With a .000 retrieving average in three appearances with the Red Wings this season, Bruce joins the Nationals for his fourth start in Rochester before making his debut on Saturday, June 14.

Bruce’s promotion to the big leagues is historic and well-deserved, according to Rochester Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason. The dog has proven himself to be ready for the show in a short time, earning him “phenom” status among fans. Bruce will make his Major League debut at Nationals Park, where he’ll participate in a pregame recognition, meet adoring fans, and help promote oral care with GREENIES dental treats.

Bruce’s owner, Josh Snyder, and the dog will hold a press conference before heading out to the field. Fans who purchase Pups in the Park tickets will receive a pet bandana, and all proceeds from dog tickets benefit the Humane Rescue Alliance. A special card created by Topps will commemorate Bruce’s Major League debut, available through the Topps NOW trading card program for 24 hours.
