Meet America’s New Hypercar: Corvette ZR1X Brings 1,250HP

Chevrolet has unveiled the Corvette ZR1X, an even higher-performance variant of its already potent sports car. With a staggering 1,250 horsepower and all-wheel drive, this new hypercar promises to take the Corvette to uncharted heights. The ZR1X is essentially a hybrid model that combines the electrical layout from the E-Ray with the turbocharged V8 from the ZR1.

The hybrid system allows for advanced performance modes, including Endurance Mode, which prioritizes battery life and Qualifying Mode, which unleashes maximum power to the front motor. The “Push to Pass” button also provides a temporary boost of acceleration when needed. However, this added performance comes at a cost: the ZR1X has massive carbon brakes from Alcon, with 16.5-inch discs providing 1.9G of braking force.

Despite the increased power and electric assistance, the Corvette’s chief engineer Josh Holder emphasizes that the ZR1X maintains its accessible performance feel and ultimate traction capabilities. The car still rolls on the same size tires as its less-powerful counterpart, but with tweaks to the tire development and traction management software.

The Corvette E-Ray model is priced around $100,000, while the Z06 starts at over $110,000. The new ZR1X is expected to be significantly more expensive, given its hybrid system, advanced performance modes, and upgraded components. Chevrolet has not yet revealed the price of the ZR1X but estimates it will likely fall in the range of European exotics.

The Corvette ZR1X will debut later this year, with extensive testing already underway at the Nurburgring. As the first production car to surpass 1,250 horsepower from a factory-built engine, the Corvette ZR1X promises to redefine American muscle cars and push the limits of performance on both the track and the road.
