Beloved actor Matthew Perry died on October 28, 2023, at 54 years old due to an accidental drug overdose. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner closed their investigation in December 2023, while the Los Angeles Police Department launched a formal investigation in May 2024.
Five people have been arrested and charged in connection with Perry’s death. Jasveen Sangha, known as “The Ketamine Queen,” is facing charges for her alleged role in distributing ketamine to Cody McLaury, who ultimately died from an overdose of the substance. Erik Fleming, a TV director, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and distribution of ketamine related to Perry’s death.
Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s live-in assistant, conspired with Sangha, Fleming, and Plasencia to obtain and distribute ketamine. Dr. Salvador Plasencia distributed ketamine to Perry and Iwamasa despite being informed of Perry’s spiraling addiction. Dr. Mark Chavez, a San Diego-based physician, sold ketamine to Plasencia.
The investigation revealed that Sangha operated a stash house where she would store, package, and distribute ketamine. Fleming and Iwamasa repeatedly injected Perry with ketamine without medical training. The charges against the five individuals carry significant prison sentences, ranging from 10 to 40 years.
