Ukraine Airstrikes: 30 Dead, 100 Wounded as Russia Launches Wave of Attacks

A devastating wave of Russian attacks on Kyiv has left at least 30 people dead and over 100 wounded in the Ukrainian capital. The strikes, which included cruise missiles and drones, destroyed a residential block in the Solomianskyi neighbourhood, leaving residents with severe injuries and loss of life.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as buildings burned and debris fell from the sky. “There was heat, fire, and smoke,” said Evhen Povarenkov, a 43-year-old warehouse worker who narrowly escaped the blast that destroyed his apartment.

Emergency services were overwhelmed as hospitals reported a surge in patients with soft tissue injuries, lacerations, and internal chest injuries. Anesthesiologist Serhii Dubrov described the severity of the damage, including one patient with a severed femoral artery and another with an open head injury.

The attacks came on the same day that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was attending a G7 conference in Canada. The timing has raised suspicions that Russia’s actions were intended to send a message, but the international community failed to provide a united response, including a joint statement of support for Ukraine.

As the city mourns its dead and rebuilds, residents are calling on the world to provide increased air defences to help protect their country from future attacks.
