C.J. Mosley Announces Retirement from NFL After Six Seasons with Jets

C.J. Mosley is hanging up his cleats after a six-season stint with the New York Jets. The five-time Pro Bowl linebacker, who turned 33 on Thursday, shared his retirement plans in an Instagram video.

Mosley started his NFL career with the Ravens in 2014 and made four Pro Bowl appearances before joining the Jets. In New York, he became known for his leadership on the field, making key calls and adjustments as quarterback of the defense. He also mentored young players, including current starters Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood.

Despite struggling with injuries throughout his time with the Jets, Mosley’s impact on the locker room will be remembered long after his retirement. The team released him in March due to an injury-filled 2024 season, during which he played just four games.

Mosley signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Jets in 2019 and was seen as a key player in changing the team’s culture under former coach Adam Gase. He had notable seasons in 2021 and 2022, earning him Team MVP honors and second-team All-Pro recognition.

However, Mosley’s final season was cut short due to injuries, including a toe injury and herniated disc in his neck. The new Jets regime has decided to move on from him, passing up the opportunity to work with another talented player.
